Six by Nico to open new Glasgow restaurant on Byres Road

A new Six by Nico will open in Glasgow later this month.

Six by Nico, which first opened its doors in Glasgow six years ago, is set to add another restaurant to its offering in the city - not far from where it all began.

We reported back in 2021 that plans had been submitted for a new Six by Nico on Byres Road, on the site of the former Fopp music shop.

Having gained planning permission, these plans will now be realised as the new restaurant is set to open later this month, and will follow in the footsteps of his Six by Nico restaurants in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London Canary Wharf, and Dublin with constantly evolving tasting menu.

The 52 capacity restaurant will open on 27 February, though plans for the rooftop dining and bar space have not been unveiled at this time.

When original plans were submitted, they included details of this space and cited the nearby Chip's rootfop as demonstrating "a demand for this type of facility in the neighbourhood."

Chef Nico Simeone from Sixco Group said of this new opening: "We are thrilled to bring a third restaurant location to Glasgow.

"Expansion in the city where our concept began is a significant step in our plan to grow further this year.

"We have quickly built an enthusiastic base of repeat customers in Glasgow, as well as an incredibly loyal customer base. We are excited to introduce a new restaurant design to both returning and new customers".

Six by Nico Byres Road

Sixco Group has commissioned Glasgow-based designers Burns Design to create the new city centre restaurant, which is currently under construction at the former Fopp record store at 358 Byres Road, Glasgow.

The Six by Nico team are also in the process of transforming the former Vodafone shop on Byres Road, into Valaria Patisserie.

The shop was taken on by Nico Simeone, and had temporary frontage showing it was to become Joos, a juice bar.

The frontage had a web address that directed people to the chef’s HOME-X website - the e-commerce arm of the Simeone business.

But the plans for Joos have changed, as the new frontage on the shop shows it’s being turned into Valaria - a patisserie and bakery.

Drawings from Burns Design, submitted to the council, show the new shop front and design. These include a faux floral display, awning and vinyl graphics on the windows.
