While the Michelin Stars for 2024 were revealed in February, some new restaurants made it into the latest guide.
These new additions are recommendations by inspectors but don’t impact the Michelin Stars, Green Stars and Bib Gourmands, which are only announced at the annual Michelin Guide Ceremony. This year this took place in Manchester.
New restaurants are added monthly, and so far there has only been one Scottish venue included in new additions.
This is Edinburgh spot Monstrose, which is a new venture from the team behind the One Michelin Star restaurant, Timberyard.
Opened in late 2023, Montrose is located on the site of a former public house in Abbeyhill, which was built around 1880.
It is split over two levels - with the downstairs section a plush wine bar and the upper level an intimate dining area.
The menu features a selection of European-style small plates, put together by Timberyard head chef James Murray.
The Michelin inspectors had this to say about Montrose: “Located close to The Palace of Holyroodhouse, this 19th Century former inn has been converted into a wine bar and restaurant by the owners of Timberyard.
"The upstairs dining room has an intimate atmosphere courtesy of its soft lighting, rustic décor and small capacity.
"The cooking – which comes in the form of a set menu – is characterised by big, bold flavours, demonstrated in the likes of game tortellini or piquant green tomatoes. In the bar, oysters, charcuterie and other small plates are offered alongside an excellent wine list that champions lesser-known regions.”
