Hosted by Port of Leith Housing Association ahead of their 43rd Annual General Meeting, social enterprise Breadshare Bakery will join The Kilted Donut, Bakery Andante, Bad Tempered Baker and Mimi’s Bakehouse at the free event which takes place on Wednesday 4 September at 6pm in Thomas Morton Hall beside Leith Theatre.
The organiser say the bake off will bring Leithers and local businesses together for a sociable evening sampling the best cakes, bread and treats to come out of Leith.
In addition to six categories for groups and individuals to enter, bakeries in Leith and north Edinburgh are invited to enter a bake to the Favourite Local Bakery category on the night.
Their creations will be enjoyed by the local community who will vote for their favourites. The partner bakeries will all be bringing their best bakes along on 4 September and encourage more of Leith’s bakeries to get involved.
Keith Anderson, chief executive of Port of Leith Housing Association, said: “Leith has a strong sense of community and our AGM format this year reflects this community spirit.
"I hope it will attract some new faces who are keen to hear about our work and to help us shape the future of Leith and north Edinburgh. I encourage as many Leith bakeries as possible to join us in sampling the best cake Leith has to offer on the night.”
Lena Wollan, director and co-founder of The Kilted Donut, said: “Here at The Kilted Donut we are always looking for ways to get involved and support the local community. Leith’s Big Bake Off is a fantastic opportunity to bring the Leith community together, and what can do that better than cake! Good luck and get baking!”
• Entries to the bake off close on Monday 2 September 2019. Bakeries can enter at www.polha.co.uk/bake-off or email [email protected] (0131 554 0403).
