Gary's parents, Jim and Mary, originally met at the Barrowlands dance hall before marrying. The couple then ran a jewellery stall in the iconic market place between 1971 and 1974.
Gary, who has just returned from appearing at Tartan Week in New York, said: "There's nowhere quite like the Barras. I remember coming down to the market on weekends as a 'Barras Baby' - my parents ran a stall and I was always mesmerised by the energy and character of the place.
"Although, less so by the food! The choices for decent grub back then were limited to chippies, candy floss and whelks."
Gary will appear at Barras Art and Design (BAaD), where he will showcase a slap up, four-course menu to an intimate crowd of food lovers and MasterChef fans.
The Scottish-inspired menu will feature a number of ingredients he worked with during his winning stint on MasterChef, as well as his famous apple dessert that wowed restaurant critic Jay Rayner.
Gary added: "It's great to be back in Glasgow, my home town, and to see so much going on in the city's ever-growing food scene.
"The Barras has been a bit tired and run down for a while now, so it's fantastic to see it undergoing a bit of a rebirth. There's so much happening down here each and every week – from vintage markets, to restaurant pop-ups and exhibitions, it's very exciting to see."
