Cafe Piccante first launched the fried treat in 2012 and already serves several similar battered sweet treats, including Snickers, Twix, Bounty, and the classic deep fried Mars Bar. At other times of the year, it also serves other seasonal items deep fried, including Creme Eggs over Easter.
When it first launched, owner Selim Sener told the Scotsman that customers couldn’t get enough of the festive treat.

He said: “It might sound a bit odd but it’s very nice and we serve it up with ice cream. If people like Christmas pudding, why wouldn’t they like warm Christmas pudding with batter on it? It adds to the taste and it’s a bit of fun.”
While the price of the Christmas pudding is still to be confirmed, the takeaway’s normal offering of deep fried chocolate bars cost around £1 each.
The chippy on Broughton Street is also offering a 'Pay it Forward' service for the homeless this winter, with customers able to hang their reciept on a peg for those who need it to come in and take for free when they are hungry.
Well known in Edinburgh as being the ‘disco chippy’, Cafe Piccante has a regular in-house DJ turning the post-night out takeaway trip into an afterparty.
Customers can also order online and have food delivered to their door, although the deep fried Christmas pudding is not currently available for delivery.
