Local Children Serve Up New NorthLink Ferries Menu

Aspiring chefs from primary schools in Orkney and Shetland have helped NorthLink Ferries create two new dishes for their autumn/winter on board restaurant menu.

The winners, Lonnie Paton (10) from Hamnavoe Primary School and Dylan McKay (5) from Sandwick Junior High School, were selected from more 330 entrants in a competition which tasked primary school pupils to write a recipe featuring their favourite meal.

The winning recipes were spaghetti with meatballs in a tomato sauce and a waffle with chocolate sauce dessert. Each winner was awarded a voucher for a NorthLink Ferries trip and a Vikling goodie bag. Ten runners up also received a Vikling goodie bag.

Commenting on the competition, Jim Wallace, passenger services officer at NorthLink Ferries, said: “It has been great to see such a fantastic response to the competition and we are very grateful to each and every pupil who entered.

“Choosing the winners was a very difficult task as all entries were excellent. We were really taken by the extremely imaginative and descriptive entries received. We’d like to congratulate both of the winners and we hope that they enjoy seeing their dish included on our restaurant menus over the coming months.”

The menu competition forms part of NorthLink Ferries community engagement programme which aims to support local communities, groups, schools and clubs.
