What can we expect?
An afternoon of foraging fun and wildlife spotting, the group will depart from the Torrin Outdoor Centre and will be led by a team of experienced rangers. During the walk guests will be shown which items are foragable including plants, fruits, berries and nuts. Wild mushrooms are also in season so guests will be shown which fungi are accessible and which should be avoided.
There will also be a chance to take in Skye's wonderful wildlife which includes red deer, pine martins, golden eagles and otters.
The last walk, which took place at Achmore, Lochalsh involved Chanterelle, wild raspberries and even ripe cherries. This walk John Phillips, the senior countryside Ranger, believes there will be a great selection of ripe hazelnuts and brambles.
What should we wear?
Obviously, the Rangers will be hoping for warm weather but as it is autumn and it is Skye, there is a good chance the weather may not be fair. As such it is recommended to wear sturdy but comfortable footwear, with robust, warm clothing. Waterproofs might be useful but are not essential.
