Edinburgh pop-up Dirty Dug set to create one of the world's hottest hot dogs

Dirty Dug, Edinburgh's newest pop-up bar and restaurant, today brought an extra bite to this year's Fringe Festival.

The new pop-up on Frederick Street, which has been providing hotdog style street food and cocktails with a Scottish twist to Edinburgh's cultural masses throughout the festival, took a break from their normal menu to create one of the world's hottest hotdogs.

Using a selection of Ghost Peppers and Trinidad Scorpion chillies, Dirty Dug's devilish chefs served up hotdogs so hot that the lucky participants who volunteered to try the eye-watering feast signed waiver forms in case of injury, or even death.

Dirty Dug's hotdog testers were in for a spicy encounter; with each hotdog garnish packing a hot punch of over one million Scoville Units. However, armed with gloves for their own safety and Dirty Dug's signature Scottish White Russian to cool them down, lunch was served.

Speaking after her fiery experience, Joanna Rice from Edinburgh, said: "I love spicy food and was excited to help Dirty Dug test their hottest hotdog creation. I knew that eating Ghost Peppers can have some tough side effects like profuse sweating and stomach cramps, but I wasn't quite prepared for just how hot it was. I loved it."

When not creating one of the hottest hotdogs in the world, Dirty Dug's menu has every type of taste covered and highlights include the 'Sloppy Dug' providing the right amount of Frankfurt sausage, beef chilli and jalapenos to feed even the hungriest festival goer; the 'Mad Dug' with its generous lashings of haggis to entice the tourists or even a 'Naked Dug' for the purists.

Michael Sim, Dirty Dug’s creator, said: “Dirty Dug is all about having fun over the festival, with great food and quality cocktails. We wanted to create something a bit different with our hotdogs and that was what today is all about.

"Alongside our quality hotdogs, we have put a lot of creativity into our cocktail menu too. Dirty Dug's showcase drink is the ‘Scottish Russian’ with our secret ingredient of the famous Buckfast Tonic Wine. Not only is it a party starter, it has done a great job of cooling down our hotdog testers today."
