Otro, a popular brasserie located in the west end of the city, has announced that it will close for good.
Situated in a traditional Georgian building on Edinburgh’s prestigious Coates Crescent, Otro offered diners an elegant experience with delicious food, sophisticated surroundings and warm, welcoming service.
Otro’s ethos was to provide beautiful dishes that taste just as wonderful as they look, at prices you might not expect in the heart of the capital’s west end.
A family-run restaurant with an upscale feel, the restaurant’s interior had an update in 2018 and comprised an elegant bar area, two ambient dining rooms, a large private entertaining space and a highly-Instagrammable outdoor terrace.
Dishes included: venison ragu fritters with parmesan custard, and lemon parfait with confit fennel, as well as trademark Otro dishes including Shetland mussels, Scottish lamb and North Sea cod.
But now, sadly, the restaurant is to close. Posting on their social media, the team wrote: "Dear Customers & Friends, It is with a heavy heart that we are making this announcement.
"Over the last few months we have been working hard behind the scenes to keep Otro operating after the lockdown. Unfortunately due to reasons beyond our control caused by the Covid-19 outbreak, we have made the difficult decision to close Otro permanently.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to all the great staff that we had a pleasure working with; all the customers who have chosen to visit us and celebrate with us over the years; our fantastic suppliers and the wonderful food bloggers and journalists who have supported us over the years.
"Our sister restaurant, New Chapter, remains open and we would love to welcome you there. With warm regards, Otro Family"
Those with gift vouchers are being asked to contact New Chapter on [email protected] where validity will be extended.
New Chapter recently announced it was extending the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, offering diners 50 per cent off up to the value of £10 each Monday-Wednesday.
Speaking of the extension to the Eat Out to Help Out deal, New Chapter’s executive chef, Maciek Szymik said: “The Eat Out to Help Out was a lifeline for many restaurants in the country and has proven to be a massive success.
“Thanks to the scheme, we managed to keep all our team members employed and we really want to sustain it for as long as possible. We are very worried that when August finishes, people will stop dining out as often as they do now."
