Deliveroo is launching an ‘eat in’ discount as the Eat Out to Help Out deal ends - here’s how to claim it

Fancy money off your next takeaway order?

Deliveroo is set to offer takeaway customers a discount on food, as the delivery service launches an 'eat in' scheme.

The Government's 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme has proved popular over the month of August, giving diners the opportunity to get 50 per cent off the cost of their favourite meals.

The scheme may be coming to an end in the next few days (though there are loud calls to extend it), but it looks like there will be a way to enjoy cheap grub for another month, and all from the comfort of your own home.

In a twist on the scheme, Deliveroo will be offering customers of small and independent restaurants £5 off a £20 order delivered on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday in September.

How does it work?

Rather than eating out to help out, Deliveroo wants food fans to eat in during the month of September.

A £5 discount will be offered on orders of £20 or more made on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month.

The new scheme will involve over 16,000 restaurants. Customers will be provided with a code that they will need to enter when checking out.

The discount will only apply to the first 100,000 orders made on those days, so if the scheme proves popular (which it almost certainly will) you might need to move fast to secure your savings.

Why are Deliveroo doing it?

Deliveroo's offer is designed to give independent food outlets a boost. National chains will not be part of the deal, unless they pick up the tab themselves.

Deliveroo co-founder and CEO Will Shu said, "Deliveroo is passionate about supporting local restaurants, who are central to our business and to so many high streets across the UK.

"Our restaurant partners play a vital role in our economy, just as they do people’s everyday lives, bringing people the food they love.

"We know they have been hit hard recently, and we hope our Eat IN to Help Out scheme can play a part in helping their businesses through this difficult period."
