Poor Scottish Dads.
According to statistics from online reservation system ResDiary, Mother’s Day in Scotland is 37 per cent busier than Father’s Day.
To add insult to injury, Mums are odds-on to be treated to a slap up dinner at a fancy restaurant, while 40 per cent of Dads end up down the local Italian.
To attempt to rectify these unfair stats, we've come up with a list of Scottish Father’s Day restaurants to let Dad know that of course he’s actually your favourite.
(Colbost House, B884, Dunvegan, Colbost, Isle of Skye IV55 8ZT)
The Three Chimneys on Skye is a Scottish institution. For 16 years it has continually held a three AA Rosette status and director, Shirley, even has an OBE for services to the Scottish Food and Drinks Industry.
The Three Chimneys makes the most of local produce, but even if your Dad’s not a foodie it’s still well worth the trip for the stunning views and gorgeous surroundings.
(1 Ness Walk, Inverness IV3 5NE)
The UK’s most northerly city is surrounded by golf courses, making it the perfect place to spend Father’s Day in Scotland.
If you’re feeling a little peckish, there’s only one place to fill up: RocPool.
Long known as one of the most stylish restaurants in the area, it sits on the waterfront, making it a great spot to while away an afternoon.
The food is classic/contemporary, with lots of gorgeous fish dishes and meaty game plates.
(1 Royal Terrace Gardens, London Rd, Edinburgh EH7 5DX)
Green fingered Fathers are sure to love The Gardener’s Cottage, situated at the foot of Calton Hill.
It used to literally be the Gardener’s Cottage for the Royal Terrace Gardens, only recently opening as a restaurant.
Guests sit at one long table, which can be awkward if your Dad is a talker but the delicious food and fairy-tale surroundings should save you from caring too much.
(1066 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G38LY)
The first up-market restaurant in now-trendy Finnieston, Fanny Trollopes, has been on the go since 2004.
It served up tasty grub when Finnieston was a down-at-the-heel neighbourhood on the outskirts of the West End.
A small venue with a bustling atmosphere, Fanny Trollopes champions Scottish food in minimalistic surroundings. Your Dad will love the great wine list and the perfectly cooked dishes.
There’s even a great whisky bar The Ben Nevis, across the road for after-dinner tipples.
(A703, Eddleston, Peebles EH45 8QP)
If you’re looking for something cosy, yet surprising, it’s right here. The Horseshoe Inn is just outside picturesque Peebles, in an unassuming little cottage.
However, the food isn’t unassuming, with choices from a two course menu to a ten course taster with wine flights.
If your Dad is a history buff this is the place for you as you can stroll off the dinner excesses with a wander around the historic market town.
(39 Ardrossan Rd, Seamill, West Kilbride KA23 9ND)
The Seamill Hydro is famous for cracking weddings but did you know they have an excellent restaurant too? If your Dad is anything like ours, he probably loves the sea and this venue sits right on the water’s edge.
The menu is dominated by steaks and delicious meaty dishes that will make a great Father’s Day treat.
If you decide to splash out and stay the night, there’s even a full gym where you can get work off the excesses of that sumptuous meal.
(Gleneagles Hotel, Auchterarder PH3 1NF)
Well we couldn’t do a list of fancy spots without including Scotland’s only two Michelin-starred venue could we?
Widely accepted as the best restaurant in Scotland, this is one to visit if you’re really pushing the boat out.
Sit in the gorgeous surrounding of the Gleneagles Hotel and enjoy Andrew Fairlie’s signature lobster dish while treating your Dad like a king.
He’ll really thank you for this one.
