6 newly opened Glasgow restaurants - including Wee Lochan Kitchen and a Friends-themed cafe

There’s a lot to look forward to in Glasgow this summer when it comes to new places to eat and drink.

Glasgow’s food and drink scene is ever-changing, with many new eateries set to open, or have just opened, their doors this summer.

Here we take a look at six of the newest, including a popular pizzeria that's making its debut in Glasgow later this summer and the return of a much-loved name.

Portal Cafe

This cafe, which is on the site of Wee Plate, opened in June, and is a family run eatery serving Turkish and Mediterranean patisserie specialties.

Victoria Perk

In case the name and logo doesn't give it away, this newly opened cafe in Whiteinch has a Friends theme.

Wee Lochan Kitchen

Good news for fans of the Wee Lochan, which sadly shut its doors in 2020. The Wee Lochan was a well loved restaurants offering a famed Scottish menu on Crow Road. It is now the site of The Marlborough.

Now it's back as The Wee Lochan Kitchen, located in Whiteinch.

Serving breakfast, brunch and lunch, the menu has dishes such as classic breakfast rolls, a vegan breakfast, croque monsieur and Cullen skink.

Bizarron

Glasgow’s newest late night bar and restaurant venue opened in June – bringing a little Latin America to the city centre.

Bizarron is the brand new recreation of 111 Hope Street, formerly home to Ad Lib, serving food and drinks from 6pm until 3am.

"How El Bizarron Fooled the Devil" is a celebrated story said to have originated in Cuba, inspiring a theme which is unique to Glasgow, with South American music, menu and moody décor and lighting.

Civerinos

The location of the highly anticipated Glasgow Civerinos, an Edinburgh pizza institution, has been confirmed along with when it's due to open.

 

Currently, Civerinos has four sites in Edinburgh: slice bars in Portobello and the city centre, a restaurant on Hunter Square, just off the Royal Mile, and a delivery kitchen which is also home to the firm’s production kitchen, training academy and creative studio.

In September, Civerinos will open its first venue outside of Edinburgh, in Finnieston.

The Civerinos food truck, has already popped up in Glasgow and North Berwick, with plans to travel much further afield.

Santa Lucia Pasta

This latest venture from the team behind Santa Lucia in the Merchant City and the Santa Lucia Deli will open in September on Byres Road on the site of the  former Tony Macaroni.

Diners can look forward to freshly made pasta dishes, arancini and burrata as well as wines and cocktails.
