Wine Events Scotland launch second series of virtual tastings - with free wine delivery across the UK

The Edinburgh-based wine events company launched a series of virtual tastings this month, with deliveries of six wines to attendees homes.

With the UK lockdown carrying on, many of us are heading online to keep in touch and have a drink or two, and Edinburgh’s Wine Events Scotland is inviting wine lovers to join in for another set of virtual tastings.

The team has released the dates for the next series of virtual tastings (hosted over Zoom), and this time delivery is free no matter where you are in the UK - not just Edinburgh.

The theme of these two tastings, in which attendees will taste six wines over two sessions, is 'wines of the unexpected', and is being hosted by Wine Events Scotland founder Diana Thompson and Jonathan Simpkin, owner of Woodhouse Wines.

How does it work?

Posting on their website, the team said: “When you place your order you’ll receive a case of six wines. We’ll taste three on Wednesday 13 May and the following three on Wednesday 20 May and you can choose to join us either at 6.30pm or 8.00pm when you place your order.

"The tasting will last around 40 minutes, we’ll get a chance to chat together about the wines and your feedback will be welcomed. There’ll be a few rules to ensure we don’t get carried away with lots of people trying to talk but the aim is it’s going to be relaxed and informative."

The wine delivery will include a complimentary tasting pack, which has a vacuvin wine saver pump and two stoppers, two laminated tasting mats, some drop stops, a fizz stopper  and two pens.

A tasting sheet will also be emailed to all participating and instructions how to sign onto the Zoom meeting along with a choice of delivery dates for the wines.

The wines

Every tasting includes wines from businesses picked by Diana and this series includes wines from Woodhouse Wines - a small independent from Montrose.

Posting about the selection and founder of Woodhouse Wines, Diana said: "Jonathan is a regular exhibitor at my annual event Fizz Feast (7 November 2020) and the laughter which exudes from his stand every year is non-stop and infectious.

"He’s a small independent based in Montrose yet manages to supply the whole of the UK with some really great wines at great prices. Trying to choose just six wines from his list was a major challenge for me.

"However, I’m confident it’s an interesting selection and we’ll be off to California, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Chile and New Zealand."

Cost and delivery

The 'wines of the unexpected' tasting is priced at £78.

The event is for anyone in the UK, with free delivery of wines from Woodhouse Wines.
