Whyte & Mackay put rugby fans to the Lion Detector Test

Whyte & Mackay are calling for rugby fans to prove they’re smooth enough to support the British & Irish Lions as the squad heads towards their first clash with the All Blacks in New Zealand this weekend.

Normally rival players, the Lions squad put their differences aside for the duration of the tour every four years. As official suppliers to the team, Whyte & Mackay are challenging fans to do the same by passing a Lion Detector test in the world’s smallest travelling rugby stadium that will roar to life this weekend.

A specially converted trailer, fans will step inside the mini rugby stadium to be greeted by a referee. The ref will challenge them to pull on an unusual scrumcap fixed to a lie detector test that will ask them a series of fun questions to prove whether they’re a Lion or Lyin’.

The Lion Detector will visit partner Belhaven bars, The Old School House in Glasgow and The Merlin Roadhouse in Edinburgh over the next three weekends. Everyone that takes part will also have a chance to win an exclusive official signed Lions team jersey as well as receiving a free dram of Whyte & Mackay.

Former British & Irish Lions and Scotland player Gordon Bulloch (75 caps for Scotland and 2 Lions Tours), who was first to sit the Lion Detector Test today said: “I’m happy to say I passed the Whyte & Mackay Lion Detector Test, so I’m ready to support the lads as they continue their Tour of New Zealand."

"As a former Lions player myself I know the team can blend together as one; now it's the time of the fans to be put to the test and prove their smooth enough to be a True Lion!"

Award-winning comedians, Link and Lorne will be the first of the ‘Lion Detector referees’ to put people through their paces this weekend. As well as rugby fans at the bar, they’ll also test sporting names including Gemma Gibbons (Olympic Judo Silver medalist) and Michael Jamieson (Olympic Swimming silver medalist.)

The duo shared their excitement, "The best things come in pairs. Link and Lorne. Whyte and Mackay. The British and Irish. Don’t make us yellow card you. Show us you’re our mane man! Mon the Lions!”
