Whisky Colours Festival 2020: What to expect from the 'hybrid' virtual event

Speyside's autumn whisky festival is going online this year - here's what to expect.

After a successful launch last year, Speyside's Whisky Colours Festival will be back this year but as a 'hybrid' series of virtual events.

Speaking to me on the most recent episode of the Scotsman podcast, Scran, organiser of the festival and owner of the Whisky Shop in Dufftown, Mike Lord, explains how the festival will work.

Mike says: “We had to take the hard decision a couple of weeks ago to produce a more virtual experience, so we are calling it a bit more of a hybrid festival.

"I am very pleased that we have been able to adapt and can go ahead with a version of our Whisky Colours Festival this year.

"My priority has been to make this event secure for as many people as possible. I hope this is an extra incentive for you to come to Speyside and enjoy its beauty with the great whiskies that we are lining up.

"We will still do tastings, via tasting packs. Hopefully people will come up to Speyside and enjoy those tastings packs here but they can be sent to wherever people feel most comfortable.

"There will be online tastings with brand ambassadors, and so far we have Glenfarclas, Glen Moray, Glenfiddich, Spey Distillery, BenRiach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh as one package, as well as independent bottler, Douglas Laing.

"Our package of festival tastings will be available to members of our Whisky Colours Club, which we will be launching shortly. Hope to see you on Speyside soon."
