Two top Scottish bars to offer 'tea'riffic treats this month to raise funds for Macmillan

Two top Scottish bars are hoping to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support this month by hosting coffee mornings and launching a ‘tea’rrific cocktail, with 50 per cent of the cocktail sales donated to the charity.

The ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ campaign is one of Macmillan’s largest fundraisers and has taken place for over 25 years. In total, the event has raised £138 million to help those battling cancer. This year, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning will take place at venues across the UK on the 28 of September.

To mark their first Macmillan Coffee Morning, the kitchen team at The Saint Bar & Kitchen in St Andrews will be making the town's largest scone tower. Customers will have the opportunity to guess how many scones are in the tower to be in with a chance to win afternoon tea and prosecco for two at the popular bar.

Visitors will also be welcome to enjoy a variety of traditional Scottish cakes and treats on offer in return for a donation to the charity.

Meanwhile, the team at Edinburgh's Badger & Co. say they will be celebrating their "biggest ever coffee morning" with more than just tea and coffee on offer.

A spokesperson for the bar said: "We will be offering Hairstyling and nail treatments from Charlie Miller and the Sleeping Beauty Salon in return for a charity donation. The event will be open for everyone to enjoy; it will be the perfect chance to catch up with friends whilst supporting Macmillan’s invaluable work."

As part of the offering, both bars have created a limited edition Macmillan ‘tea’rrific cocktail, which will be available from Friday 28th September to Sunday 30th September. Concocted using Earl Grey flavours, 50 per cent of sales from the cocktail will go to support the work of Macmillan. A non-alcoholic alternative will also be available.

General manager of Badger & Co., Alec Duncan, said: “The Badger & Co. team and I are looking forward to fundraising in our own, special way to support the fantastic work of Macmillan Cancer Support. We hope that through creating a bespoke cocktail and holding our coffee morning, we’ll beat our fundraising total from previous years and make it our biggest and best Macmillan Coffee Morning yet.”

• Badger & Co.’s Coffee Morning will take place from 9am to 11am on Friday 28th September at 32 Castle Street, Edinburgh EH2 3HT, while The Saint’s Coffee Morning will take place from 10am to 12pm on Friday 28th September at 170 South Street, St Andrews KY16 9EG
