BUCKFAST is to be sold in 5cl miniatures for the first time.
As part of a trial run, the fortified tonic wine will be sold in small bottles.
Buckfast has already made inroads into encouraging reduced consumption by selling the caffeinated beverage in 25cl cans.
J Chandler & Co, the distributors of the Devon-manufactured tipple, will make 9,000 miniatures available across the UK, priced at around £2 – and they may make more if it proves a success.
Stewart Wilson, J Chandler & Co's sales manager, said: "We will mainly be stocking them at cash and carries where individual retailers can purchase them.
"They can also be found on the Buckfast Abbey website and miniature bottles websites too.
"At the moment, it is a limited release and we are basing things on how people react but so far we've had a positive response."
Wilson added that the firm had initiated the move in response to numerous requests for wedding favours and collectors.
The beverage is frequently linked to crime and disorder in Scotland, and was linked to nearly 6,500 crime reports from 2010 to 2012.
It has been made in Buckfast Abbey for more than a century.
