A feast of 12 specially created whisky ice creams will be on the menu at the 12 Tub Cinema Club – a series of film screenings to celebrate the news that The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s once members-only venue at 28 Queen Street, Edinburgh will now be permanently open to the public.
Each of the classic films showing at the 12 Tub Cinema Club will have a whisky link, and guests can take their pick from the Society’s menu of ‘Ice Dream Drams’ - 12 flavours of whisky ice cream made with Society single cask whiskies, which have been created by renowned Edinburgh ice cream makers, S Luca.
The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is an award-winning whisky bottler and international membership club and its venue at 28 Queen Street is home to the UK’s largest collection of single cask whiskies.
The 12 Tub Cinema Club ice creams
The ice creams created by S Luca reflect the Society’s flavour-based approach to whisky, which uses 12 unique whisky flavour profiles such as Oily & Coastal; Spicy & Sweet; and Young & Spritely. The 12 flavours of whisky ice cream available include:
• Maple Bacon Crunch – sweet syrup and smoky bacon flavours combined with Peated whisky
• Banana-Dram-A – banana and marshmallow ice cream made with a Sweet, Fruity and Mellow whisky
The 12 Tub Cinema films
From Friday 19th June to Saturday 11 July, The North View room at the Society’s 28 Queen Street venue will be transformed into an intimate cinema, complete with bean bags, deck chairs and ushers serving whisky ice creams and drams. The films being screened are:
Friday 19 June: The Angels’ Share - Ken Loach’s bittersweet comedy about a life-changing trip to a whisky distillery.
Friday 26 June: Whisky Galore - The 1949 Ealing classic sees Scottish islanders try to plunder 50,000 cases of whisky from a stranded ship.
Saturday 27 June: Lost in Translation - Contemporary classic in which Bill Murray plays an aging actor hired to promote a Japanese whisky.
Thursday 2 July: Inglourious Basterds - Learn how to order a 33-year old Highland Scotch the right way in Tarantino’s WWII epic.
Friday 3 July: Barfly - Cult 80s movie set in LA loosely based on the life of writer and whiskey fan Charles Bukowski.
Friday 10 July: Withnail & I - Two out-of-work actors with a taste for whisky go on holiday "by mistake” in this cult indie drama
Saturday 11 July: Casablanca - An undisputed classic starring renowned whisky lover, Humphrey Bogart
Opening of 28 Queen Street venue
The Society has previously trialled opening its 28 Queen Street venue to non-members – these trials proved so successful that it will now be permanently open for more people to discover its unrivalled collection of whiskies.

28 Queen Street, which first opened in May 2004, is a an elegant Georgian townhouse spread across 4 floors comprising The Dining Room restaurant on the ground floor; a whisky bar on the first floor; and event and meeting spaces on the second and third floors.
The Society’s other venue in Edinburgh, The Vaults in Leith, will continue to operate as a members-only venue – as will its venue in London at 19 Greville Street in Farringdon.
