Scotland's distillery industry gathers for first-of-its-kind event

Leading figures from Scotland's burgeoning distillery industry are coming together with politicians, industry bodies and expert advisers for the first event of its kind in Scotland.

The Distillers Law and Information Training Event 2017 (DLITE), organised by law firm TLT, takes place against a backdrop of distillers facing new challenges and fighting to innovate in order to remain competitive and cater for a growing and increasingly international market.

The day-long conference – which takes place at Summerhall in Edinburgh on 19 September 2017 and is free to attend – covers a broad range of topics from funding and licensing to renewable energy, social enterprise, innovation and international growth.

The event features a high calibre of speakers from business, law and political backgrounds, including Professor Alan Wolstenholme from the Scottish Craft Distillers Association; David Williamson, director of public affairs and communication at the Scotch Whisky Association; James Withers from Scotland Food and Drink; Paul Miller from Eden Mill; Chris Thewlis from Ginerosity; Jen Gammell from Pickerings Gin; Paul Cochrane from Johnstone Carmichael; Adam Hunter from Arbikie; Doug Bairner from Lone Wolf; Mike Aikman from Seawolf Rum; Liam Hughes from Glasgow Distillery Co and Paul Reynolds from Gin71.

The event will conclude with a panel debate followed by a tasting session hosted by famous whisky author Blair Bowman, the creator of World Whisky Day.

Paul Miller, founder of Eden Mill Distillery who will be speaking about his dedication to innovation, said: “With so much growth and change in the distilling sector in Scotland, the timing of this event is great for businesses looking for some wider guidance and support.

"I am delighted that TLT has asked me to speak and look forward to hearing from the other guest speakers and attendees.”

Niall Hassard, licensing legal director at TLT, commented: “Scotland can proudly boast world famous water, craft and entrepreneurial spirit and that is reflected in the wide range of spirits being distilled across the country.

"These are passionate businesses with incredible opportunities – in the UK and abroad – and this event will ensure that distillers can remain on the foot front when it comes to running and growing their business. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone for what will be a fun and educational event."
