Whisky talks, tours and tastings on the menu as Jura Tastival returns

Not to be outdone by Islay and Speyside, the Isle of Jura will be holding its own one-day single malt spectacular, the Jura Tastival, next month.

The event on Thursday, 1 June, offers guests to the island new ways to enjoy whisky, through a busy programme of one-of-a-kind taste experiences.

Running as part of the annual Feis Ile Festival, which attracts whisky fans from all over the world to distillery open days on the neighbouring island of Islay each year, Tastival will see Jura’s only whisky distillery throw open its doors and put on a number of free and ticketed activities.

These include unique whisky tastings and tours, live entertainment – including music from legendary Scots trad band RURA – and a chance to join the Jura community at special meet and greets with the distillery team.

Tickets for the event are expected to be in high demand, as this year Tastival will only run over one day - as opposed to two in previous years.

Ticketed sessions will include events such as the Jura Long Table, a special one-off lunch in the distillery’s Grainstore; the All Terrain Whisky Tasting, a Jura bus tour which shows how the island’s unique landscape inspires the whisky range; Whisky 101, a tasting and Q&A with Whyte & Mackay whisky maker and blender Gregg Glass; and the Single Malt Masterclass, an exclusive distilling masterclass hosted by Jura Distillery manager Graham Logan.
Music, live entertainment and the opportunity to sample Jura’s range will be available in the Dramming Bar in the distillery’s Cooperage, where guests will have the first opportunity to try, and purchase, Tastival 2017, Jura’s limited edition bottling which was created to mark the festival.

Included in the £5 entry fee, will be a brochure, souvenir glass and two drams at the bar with a cash bar available, including drams, cocktails and an exclusive Drygate beer brewed to pair with Jura’s Tastival 2017 bottling.

The organisers say the distillery will also be running free tours of the still house throughout the day on a first come, first served basis.

The island event will kick off a schedule of localised Tastival events to take place in Europe throughout the summer, which will be announced by the distillery team in the coming weeks.
