Islay's newest whisky distillery Ardnahoe announces that it is now open

The Scottish company behind the creation of Islay's newest whisky distillery has announced on social media that it is now officially open. 

Following a post stating that the doors on the new production site were now open on Facebook, which received nearly 2,000 likes, the team behind the new build added: "We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for all the well wishes on the official opening of our distillery!

"It is such an exciting time, and we can finally share it with you - we hope to see you all at the distillery in the near future."

The project, which is slightly behind schedule, was announced in 2016 by Glasgow-based whisky specialists Hunter Laing & Co.

The first new malt whisky distillery on Islay in over a decade, it is the ninth on the Hebridean island - after the recent proposals for Gartbreck Distillery stalled at the planning stage - and the first to be built since Kilchoman was established in 2005.

The original plans for the site included a visitor centre comprising of a café, tasting room and shop.

Located on the on the north east coast of Islay near Port Askaig, construction began on the site at the end of 2017 with the new distillery now open for tours.
