Outlander star Sam Heughan's Sassenach Wild Scottish gin wins gold medal at global awards

The new gin, which is made in Scotland but currently only on sale in America, has won its first industry award.

Sam Heughan's Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin has won a gold medal at the Singapore World Spirits Competition.

His whisky, The Sassenach, also was awarded a double gold medal at the global awards.

Posting about the accolade, Heughan wrote: "Double gold for our Spirit of Home and Gold for our Wild Scottish Gin. This is only the start… Look forward to seeing you this summer in the US! X"

Sassenach Wild Scottish Gin has been on sale in the US since last month, with no release date for the UK.

We spoke to the actor and author in February for our podcast Scran, where he discussed the inspiration behind the gin and what's next for him after Outlander.

Of the Sassenach gin, he said: "I wanted to create a Scottish gin, something that represents where I'm from represent Scotland. Everything comes from Scotland, all the botanicals, and I want it to be something that was from where I'm from in which is Dumfries and Galloway.

"So I looked at we looked at all the botanicals you can get and we distilled each one individually to try see what it was like, put our favourites together, and then have tried subsequent recipes.

"I'm really, really excited by this gin. It's very moreish. Very well balanced. It's not like other gins."

The Sassenach, which is a multi-award winning blended whisky, was released in 2020. Heughan has since released a tequila, with the gin being the latest spirit added to the Sassenach stable.
