BrewDog look to create new beer-themed hotel in Aberdeen

Brewdog could soon begin work on a new beer-themed hotel - dubbed The Kennel - after raising nearly £19m in their latest Equity for Punks funding campaign.

The brewing company, who already have a new brewery in America in the works, aim to make the dream a reality should they reach their Equity for Punks IV target.

Located in Aberdeen - close to their original brewery in Ellon - the new hotel could feature some truly wacky ideas such as draught beer on tap, mattresses made from malt, a jacuzzi filled with pale ale and a homebrew kit by the bed.

The team even joked that Simcoe, the brewery's canine mascot, could be concierge.

The new guest house will provide a base for beer tourists, staff and sales people who are visiting the brewery.

The company, who released a statement on their website, said: "Hotels. From small red plastic cubes on the Monopoly board to opulent behemoths so enormous, Tom Cruise can abseil from the top and still only make it a third of the way down. Although they come in all shapes and sizes, there’s something that unites all of them; the excitement of slipping in the keycard (it usually works on the third go), and stepping into a new, crisp hotel room and the unknown wonders within.

"So just imagine what it would be like if that room was based around craft beer.

“Currently, every night of the week we have two-dozen rooms booked in Aberdeen-area hotels, so having everyone stay under one roof simply makes sense."

BrewDog’s year-long crowdsourcing campaign, Equity for Punks IV, finished on April 20th, raising £19m, and this money will now be spent making the new project a reality.

The brewers are now looking for suggestions on the layout and design for The Kennel and have promised that no two rooms will be the same.

In addition to the hotel project, the raised money is expected to be directed to expanding the company’s current portfolio of over 40 BrewDog bars.
