Construction work has begun on Islay's newest whisky distillery

Construction has begun on the newest distillery on Islay with the project firmly on track for its launch in early 2018.

The company behind the new Ardnahoe Distillery project have released pictures of the construction work taking place on the main site on Islay.

Speaking in a newsletter to whisky fans, Hunter Laing & Co. said: "The late summer months have been busy at Ardnahoe, but we’ve been at that stage of the construction process where although we’ve been doing a lot, the visual scene at the site hasn’t really changed.

"We’re happy to report to you however that the building foundations are now complete, and Ardnahoe will definitely be built on solid ground."

The foundations have already been built and the steel framing is set to go up in due course, with Hunter Laing adding that the next step of the process is the "erection of the steel frame of the building itself".

The rest the steel framing was then pictured laid out in one of the Ayrshire steel company's warehouses waiting to be loaded up.

Hunter Laing stated that in total they would be sending "five trucks of steel framing across", which will then "be erected in phases".

The team finished by adding: "In November we’ll be bringing the stills down from Elgin, which will be a special and probably emotional moment.

"The distillery will begin to feel very real at that point. Don’t worry if you won’t be on Islay to witness this occasion, we’ll be recording it for posterity."
