A pop-up rum bar is coming to a beautiful Scottish beach this month - and giving away free cocktails

With its white sands and crystal-clear water, Camusdarach beach on the west coast of Scotland could be compared to the Caribbean...minus the tropical weather.

Now, with the arrival of some late summer sun, Langs Jamaican Rum is set to add to the area’s tropical resemblance by introducing a pop-up rum bar, launching on the beach’s shores from Saturday 19 September.

Open to customers this Saturday, come rain or shine, the pop-up rum bar will offer a complimentary and socially distanced rum cocktail to locals and tourists in the area.

Langs Jamaican Rum

Langs Jamaican Rum has a long history of bringing a flavour of the Caribbean to Scotland.

Originally brought to Glasgow as a tropical antidote to the traditional flavour range, the rum eventually disappeared from the U.K. But now it’s back - made in Jamaica and finished in Scotland.

To celebrate its return this month, the banana flavoured rum is proving once more that you don’t need to make the 10,000-mile round-trip to Jamaica to enjoy the spirit of the Caribbean, with Camusdarach beach in Scotland an unexpected setting for its tropical launch.

Barbara Turing, innovation manager at Ian Macleod Distillers, who own Langs Rum, says: “Although the rum shack is a Caribbean icon, it certainly won’t look out of place in this setting - the beach is spectacular.

"Our rum benefits from the best of both countries; the finest rum from Jamaica infused with natural banana flavour in Scotland. It’s a special relationship that’s created liquid sunshine in a bottle.”

Free drinks for visitors

Those making the trip to the coastal shack for the pop-up this weekend will be able to choose a complimentary drink – Langs Banana Rum with cola or ginger beer, or a tropical banana daquiri.

Located on Camusdarach Beach, near Mallaig – made famous by the film Local Hero - the bar will be open from 1pm-4pm on Saturday 19th September, promising customers a good time whatever the weather.

Strict social distancing measures will also be in place around the shack.

Barbara Turing continued: “For those unable to join this weekend, we’ll be touring our Langs shack in the coming months, giving people an authentic taste of Jamaica close-to-home.”

Where to buy Langs Banana Rum

Langs Banana Rum is launching in Tesco stores throughout Scotland from 17 September and on Amazon UK-wide (ABV 37.5%. 700ml bottle £25).

Made using a mix of rums infused with natural banana flavour, it’s great for fruity cocktails with friends or enjoyed straight up on the rocks.
