5 Great Cocktails to Try at Cocktails in The City in Edinburgh

Cocktails in the City arrives in Edinburgh today (Thursday 12th October) here are five great cocktails you should try at this fun event.

This Thursday & Friday, The Mansfield Traquair is tranformed into a cocktail haven with 18 pop-up bars by the likes of Panda & Sons, Malmaison, The Voyage of Buck, 56 North and The Voodoo Rooms.

Each bar has created its own signature cocktail (available at £6.5) and here are 5 of our favourite ones:

(We've included the recipes so you can make them at home but you'll want to try them made by the hands of the professionals first of course) 

THE HAAR

(Created by Gin 71 & Arbikie)

"The drink pays tribute to The Haar –using dry ice to recreate the fog that rises up along the east coast. The use of blueberries is due to Kirsty’s Gin using blaeberries a wild variety from Fife and a key botanical in the gin."

Ingredients:

• 50ml Arbikie Kirsty’s Gin
• 1 bar spoon of blueberry compote*
• 10ml Ginger Syrup
• 25ml Fresh Lemon Juice
• 10ml Crème De Mure
• Top with Ginger Ale

*250g blueberries, 100g caster sugar, 50ml lemon juice, 50ml water. Slowly simmer and reduce down into compote.

Instructions:

Shake the first five ingredients and strain into a chilled wine glass.

Top with Ginger ale, garnished with blueberries and mint.

Pop ya Colla

"Sweet caramel toffee on the palette - a real crowd pleaser"

Ingredients

• 35ml Caramel infused Naked Grouse
• 10ml Frangelico
• 25ml lemon juice
• 2 Barspoons Caster Sugar
• House made vanilla foam.
• Served with caramel popcorn and caramel shortcake.

Instructions:

First four ingredients are built in the glass and then topped with vanilla foam.

The Butterfly Effect

Ingredients:

• 40ml Thai Limeleaf infused Bacardi Carta Oro
• 20ml Cocchi Vermouth D’Torino
• 20ml fresh lemon juice
• 40ml Coconut Water
• 2-3 drops Butterfly Pea Flower extract
• 15ml Hibiscus Syrup
• 25ml Fresh Egg White

Instructions:

Shake all ingredients.

Pour in a coupette and garnish with toasted coconut and dark chocolate.

Cucumber Hiball

Ingredients:

• Edinburgh Seaside Gin
• Boston Bitters
• pickled cucumber
• lime
• soda

Instructions:

All ingredients are "built" in the glass over cubed ice topped with soda.

Mulled Apple

(Created by Angels Share & Ketel One Vodka)

"With Ketel One vodka, Applejack liquor and hints of cinnamon. The warm taste of apple takes you into the festive season."

Ingredients:

• 25ml Ketel One
• 12.5ml apple jack
• 12.5ml apple schnapps
• 12.5ml port
• 10ml egg white
• 12.5ml lemon juice
• 12.5ml cinnamon gomme

Instructions

All ingredients in a cocktail shaker, double strained into a martini glass topped with a dehydrated apple slice.
