Retro arcade games and great beer, what more could you want?

Glasgow's first arcade bar (why has this never been a thing before?) is just as much fun on your own as it is with great company.

The beer list is chock-full of great European and American beers and the staff are friendly as hell, but it's the arcade games that are the real stars.

Grab a beer, some coins and enjoy a couple of rounds of House of the Dead.

The Duchess of Argyle

(1038 Argyle Street, G3 8LX)

Featuring an extensive agave spirit selection, alongside some choice Mexican street food, the team are promising a visit to the new bar will be unlike any other night out in the city.

The public house and taqueria is open until 1am at weekends with some of Glasgow’s most sought after DJs on the decks.

Everyone knows gin is one of the world's hottest spirits at the moment and BeGin, which is based at the site of the old BoBar in the Hilton Grosvenor, is adding to the city's growing cadre of excellent new gin palaces.

The Hawke

(Merchant Square, Glasgow, G1 1LE, 0141 553 1010)

Chivas Brothers

The quiet and unassuming arrival of The Hawke, seems to have worked to its credit. Feeling like a bar for those in the know, the lack of fanfare around its launch speaks volumes for its confidence in its offering - this is a hidden gem that knows it deserves to be discovered.

With a fresh menu of both contemporary and traditional dishes, and bespoke cocktails served at the bar, its mixologists come with a high pedigree.

Focusing on cocktails and spirits like gin and whisky, they will be offering pairings with their delightful contemporary menu.

And fitting snugly above the Arisaig in Merchant Square, it's the perfect place to enjoy a spot of people watching as you enjoy one of the fun creations from the bar.

The Hippo Taproom

(323 Sauchiehall St, Glasgow G2, 0141 353 3400)

Ok, so the Hippo Taproom isn't exactly brand new but we think it deserves a second push as it is a generally unheralded - due to its location - epicentre of great beer in the city centre.

Their strength lies in their ability to have some of the UK's biggest breweries like Kernel, Siren and Weird Beard sitting alongside the cream of Scotland's hop crop - like Fallen, Tempest and Cromarty - and the knowledge of their excellent staff.

With their regular lines - Hippo Helles & Thistly Cross Traditional Cider - and an ever rotating lineup of  eight keg and three cask lines, they are sure to have something on tap to please any taste.

And if that doesn't satisfy then their fridges are filled with over 60+ bottles and cans from all over the globe as well as a great range of wines, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.

They take snacks seriously so should you be peckish after all of those beers then grab a cheese platter from cheese masters I.J. Mellis or the delicious pies from Mr C’s in Perthshire.
