Take a romantic break at a Scottish Castle, Edinburgh (£169 per couple)

Valentine’s Day is all about doing something special and what could be more special than spending the night in a castle? Melville Castle has been restored and refurbished into a ‘castle hotel’ only 20 minutes from Edinburgh. A nights stay in the castle comes with a three course dinner, chocolates on arrival and full Scottish breakfast and offers the chance to experience Edinburgh’s eclectic mix of historic attractions.

Explore one of Scotland's distilleries. St Andrews (£10.00 pp)

Put a different spin on a romantic Valentine’s break with a trip to one of Scotland’s distilleries. Situated in picturesque St Andrews, Eden Mill is one of Scotland's - and the UK's - most unique distilleries in that it functions as both a brewery and a gin and whisky distillery. Offering two different tours, one for beer fans (£7.50 pp) and one for gin lovers (£10 pp), both finish with a tasting session and should you fancy taking a little of that Valentines magic home with you then you can always buy a bottle of their fantastic love gin - made using red rose petals, marshmallow root and goji berries.

For £80, couples can enjoy a three-course meal and a glass of fizz at their vibrant west-end restaurant, before settling down to a film in its small but spacious cinema with a relaxing glass of wine. With Oscar season approaching, there won’t be any shortage of great films to chose from.

Learn how to make sushi. Aberdeen (£45 pp)

Instead of going out for dinner, why not try your hand at making sushi at Oryza Sushi. Classes teach couples how to gather the correct ingredients and condiments to make a selection of delicious sushi. Roll nigari, maki, temaki and inari sushi before discovering how to expertly cut and present the dishes. After you’ve perfected your sushi making skills, participants are welcomed to take their platter home, along with all the recipes and a sushi making guide. If you want to skip the cooking and go straight for the tasting, a Oryza sake tasting and sushi eating class is also available.
