The Crusoe Hotel at Lower Largo holds free family Halloween event, with stalls from Aeble and Pittenweem Preserves

There’s also a pumpkin carving competition

We’ve heard there are some ghoulish goings-on this Halloween at The Crusoe Hotel in Lower Largo.

Indeed, on Sunday October 31, they’re hosting a day of free activities and games for kids, an outdoor food and drink market, themed hot food from The Crusoe kitchen and live music from Nick Mercer JR, the former front man of the band, Sergeant.

“We are delighted to be able to welcome visitors and our local community for an Autumn Festival, which will be our first event at The Crusoe since we opened this summer. We wanted to celebrate this Halloween as a chance to meet new and old friends, listen to great music and share in some spooky but nice fun,” says Graham Bucknall, managing director of the TBC Pub Company, who also own The Bridge Inn in Ratho and The Ship Inn in Elie. “The Crusoe is a destination for visitors and the local community and we hope the outdoor market will be a chance for attendees to meet and support local small business owners who will be selling their delicious, seasonal food and drink.”

From 11-4pm, the stalls will be set out, with appearances from Anstruther’s new cider shop, Aeble, jam makers Pittenweem Preserves and family bakers Barnett’s Bakery. There will be free-range duck and hens eggs from Blyths of Fife, Largo Estate winter squashes and pumpkins, and, bringing a Korean speciality to the East Neuk, you’ll also find kimchi by Angrykulture Ferments.

Alongside the stalls, from 11-8pm, the kitchen will be serving venison burgers, bratwurst, vegan chilli, sausages in rolls, cakes and biscuits, as well as craft ales, Pilgrim’s mulled gin and spiced plum cider.

From 6-8pm children can visit the Halloween tent for fancy-dress competitions, trick or treating and themed interactive games with prizes.

In advance of the event, little horrors who want to take part in a pumpkin carving competition can buy their pumpkin, grown on Largo Estate, from The Crusoe on Wednesday October 27. They can enter their creation on the day of the Autumn Festival, for a chance to win a free dinner at The Crusoe. No pressure, kids.
