A Highland Dry Gin from the Kinrara Distillery has been named as the Best Scottish Contemporary Gin by the World Gin Awards 2021.
Kinrara Distillery, based at Lynwilg Farm Steading on the outskirts of Aviemore, was founded in 2017 and started producing it’s first spirits in 2018.
Using local botanicals - such as rowanberries and rosehips - harvested from the Kinrara Estate, the distillery produces a range of award-winning Highland Gins, with this latest award being the biggest accolade so far.
Speaking of the World Gin Awards win, Luke Fenton, commercial manager at Kinrara Distillery said “This is an absolutely wonderful achievement for us.
"We’re just a small distillery, producing our gin in batches of just 240 bottles at a time; for our team to be recognised on such a global scale for the quality of our gin is just amazing.
"The team are absolutely delighted, especially our distiller, David Wilson. We all know how good our gin is but now the world knows too.
"During the Covid-19 pandemic, the distillery was re-purposed to produce hand sanitiser for the NHS and care homes throughout the Highlands, as well as businesses locally and nationally throughout the UK.
"It has been a tough year for small alcohol producers with pubs, restaurants, retailers and tourism sites being closed.
"So this has definitely lifted us for the year ahead and we look forward to welcoming people back to our distillery very soon."
Kinrara Distillery is usually open to the public and plans to resume business as normal when restrictions are lifted later in the year with distillery tours available daily, a distillery shop and a newly refitted tasting room.
In the summer of 2020 the distillery opened its visitor shop for the first time where customers could treat themselves to various gins that are exclusively available from the distillery as well as the hand sanitisers.
There was also a range of tonics, cold beers and other drinks related items available.
Customers can currently buy all Kinrara Distillery Gin and products from their website.
