Three Scots chippies named among the UK’s Top 10 Fish & Chip Restaurants

Three popular chippies in Scotland have been named among the UK’s best fish and chip restaurants by Fry Magazine.

The Quayside Restaurant & Fish Bar in Gourdon, Sit in @ Dunkeld Fish Bar in Dunkeld and Catch Fish and Chips in Glasgow were named in the Top 10 by the respected trade magazine.

The team at the magazine said they carried out an "extensive search" to find those restaurants serving up the best fish and chips across the UK.

To make the 10 Best, all three restaurants had to impress a mystery diner who visited unannounced and marked the restaurant on over 40 aspects of their business from the quality of the food and customer service to cleanliness and value for money.

Quayside scored an impressive 97 per cent with the mystery diner praising their  "beautiful piece of fish" with a batter that was "light, fluffy and really well cooked".

Ewen and Noel, owners at The Quayside, said: “To be recognized by our industry peers is especially rewarding.

"This is the second great piece of recognition this year for what is a huge team effort. We continuously try and improve our offering, but some essentials stay the same.

"We buy the best, freshest produce we can, we buy our produce as locally as we can,
and we cook seasonally.”

Reece Head, competition organiser, added: “The eating out market is more competitive than ever and you can no longer just open your doors and expect a regular trade; the focus has to be on offering a quality product that’s consistent, accompanied by exceptional customer service in clean, inviting surroundings.

“Our 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants hit the mark on all these aspects day in, day out by buying the best ingredients, filtering their oil every day, sourcing the right packaging, training their staff and investing back into their premises. This all comes at a price, but these shops see the value it adds and it was makes them stand out.

“We are proud of all the winners and the efforts they go to not only to raise standards in our industry but to set new ones too. The industry is so much more professional than it ever has been because of shops like those in our 10 Best who go the extra mile.”
