The distillery, which is located in the Forgue valley in Aberdeenshire, originally introduced a 15 year old sherry cask matured expression in the 1990s, however this was replaced by the hugely popular Revival in 2009.
Building a strong reputation - and a cult following - as one of the industry's most popular sherry cask matured malts, the 15-year-old expression continued the legacy set out by distillery founder James Allardice in 1826, "marrying Highland spirit to Spanish oak".
However, it was eventually discontinued in 2015 due to supply constraints.
Following a three year wait, The GlenDronach Revival Aged 15 Years has been re-released by the Highland distillery.
Bottled at 46% ABV, non chill-filtered and of natural cask colour, the 2018 release has already won plaudits at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Currently only available at The GlenDronach Distillery until the end of September (priced with an RRP of £62), it is due to be released globally next month.
The GlenDronach master blender Rachel Barrie said: “Today marks the return of The GlenDronach Revival Aged 15 years, an iconic aged expression of critical acclaim, revered by connoisseurs around the globe.
"After years of slumber, this relaunched expression embodies The GlenDronach signature style of Spanish Oak maturation in fine Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucía. Over 15 years in the darkness of our dunnage warehouses, the spirit has grown in stature, refinement and intensity.
"The Glendronach 15 year old Revival has an exquisite balance of intensity and finesse. In flavour, intense notes of ripe dark fruits and manuka honey envelope into an elegant silk-velvet chocolate finish, reflecting the richly layered complexity of this iconic single malt.”
According to the distillery team, the new expression has an An intoxicating burst of maraschino cherry, ripe bramble and dark chocolate mint on the nose, with honey-glazed apricot and ripe fig featuring on the palate, before a lingering finish accentuated by "dark manuka honey, herbal bitters and dark chocolate".
