The Bakery by Zique, opening soon in Glasgow

Cake lovers rejoice! The Bakery by Zique is opening in Glasgow's west end soon.

Glasgow west end residents are set to be spoiled by the latest opening in the area.

The Bakery by Zique, which is located on Lauderdale Gardens, is set to open in the coming weeks and has many a treat in store.

As the name suggests, The Bakery is co-owned by Mhairi Taylor (of Cafezique and Delizique fame), whose restaurants have been staples of the west end dining scene for years.

With partners Tom, Lisa and Dick Lewis, who own and run award-winning Mhor 84 and Monachyle Mhor, it's no surprise that the team have set out to expand their small Hyndland empire.

With an experienced owner, The Bakery by Zique is also set to benefit from an excellent pastry chef - Lyndsay Michie who trained at Restaurant Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles and Le Gavroche in London’s Mayfair and comes from popular local bakery, Cottonrake.

Locals (or anyone following the Bakery on social media) will soon see the bread oven being transported from Delizique to The Bakery by Zique in the new few days. This is in preparation for the daily, freshly made breads that will be on offer.

There will also be a range of sweet treats such as cheesecakes, pastry tarts with various toppings, beetroot cake and brioches breads as well as savoury snacks like homemade soups, pork pies, quiches, and cheese straws.

Diners can also take the Bakery experience home thanks to upmarket deli-grocery items, such as Partick honey, Corrie mains eggs, tablet and honeycomb.

Speaking to Glasgow West End Today, owner Mhairi said: “I find the community to be very supportive and they tell me they are really looking forward to having bread and cakes made on site here.

“Despite competition from the big boys, there are still good food and drink independents in the area like Peckhams, James Allan butchers, The Good Spirits Company and lots of cafes and bars, which are well supported by the local community.”
