The second Angus Business Awards, part of Scotland’s Business Awards, was held at Carnoustie Golf Hotel on Sunday night.
The fully booked evening was a celebration of the best of the county’s businesses.
However, the organiser of the event said they were forced to make the decision to strip the award from the Westport Bar, in Arbroath, after a staff member lashed out at runners-up during their acceptance speech for the best-licensed premises accolade.
Later in the evening, in a separate “very minor” incident, a fight broke out between guests at one table, understood to be from The Anchor Bar in Arbroath, which resulted in police being called.
Scott Somerville, head of presentation for Scotland’s Business Awards, said: “Sunday’s awards night successfully awarded 24 Angus businesses in various business sectors.
“Unfortunately, during the ceremony, a person accepting an award on behalf of a business (not the owner) chose to make unacceptable remarks directly towards other finalists seated in the room.
“The person responsible for the remarks was asked to leave and did so with the rest of their party.
“The award was retained by us and after some discussion it will not be presented this year.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police attended at a hotel in Carnoustie at 9.20pm on Sunday, November 13, following reports of a very minor disturbance between two men.
“An inquiry was carried out and there was no further police action.”
