New bar and restaurant venue OX184 unvieled in Edinburgh’s Cowgate

Edinburgh's trendy and popular Cowgate gets an exciting new bar and restaurant venue in the form of OX184

Fuller Thomson, owners of popular Edinburgh bar venues Red Squirrel, The Holyrood 9a and The Southern have opened a brand new restaurant and bar, OX184, in the city’s famous Cowgate.

Fuller Thomson acquired Capital Bar and Club, located on the Cowgate, as the site for the new bar, completing a full refurbishment of the venue with Edinburgh based architects KBA+D.

The venue now boasts new floor-to-ceiling windows with a contemporary industrial-style décor throughout. The open kitchen also features a wood-fired grill, where diners can watch the team of chefs prepare food from the menu of organic, locally sourced, produce.

The new bar will host samplings, tasting evenings and whisky pairing events at its Whisky Library created in partnership with Royal Mile Whiskies and categorised according to flavour. An extensive selection of world beers, in draught, bottle and can form will also be available.

Commenting on the opening of OX184, Gary Thomson, director of Fuller Thomson, said: “We have been steadily growing our presence in the Edinburgh bar and restaurant market for some time now, through a number of well-established locations.

“The Cowgate seemed a natural place to open our next venue and the funding support has enabled us to put our plans into action and continue our expansion in Edinburgh.

“The refurbishment allowed us to create a unique and modern venue in this historic location. It’s a really exciting time to be based on the Cowgate, which has been going through a period of rejuvenation following the opening of a number of new sites in the area.”

OX184 is open seven days a week from 11am - 3am.
