Scots distillery say their original gin baubles are back as London gin company launches their own version

A London-based gin company hit the headlines this week when they launched their own range of gin baubles.

Sipsmith Gin announced the new collection this week, saying they will be available to order in November.

Jared Brown, master distiller at Sipsmith said in an interview with Good Housekeeping: "As our London Dry Gin was inspired by the beautiful aromas of a pine tree, we thought all Christmas Trees needed to be decorated in gin this year."

However, Edinburgh-based Pickering's used the news to point out that they were the first to create the now famous Christmas decorations and that this year's batch have already gone on pre-sale.

Originally launched in 2014, Pickering's gin baubles went viral after we broke the story about them last year, leading to coverage on news websites around the world, including one created by TV legend Martha Stewart.

The decorations proved so popular that they crashed the website on their release last year and led to the distillery at Summerhall increasing their production just to meet demand.

Now the Edinburgh gin brand have reiterated that their original gin baubles are already available for pre-order for those signed up to their #Ginfriends mailing list, and they will go on general sale on 4th October this year.

Pickering’s Gin co-founder Marcus Pickering said: “We wanted to reassure people that the original gin bauble was coming back.

“We were the first to do them, bringing out the gin bauble in 2014 as a bit of fun for our local Christmas fair. But last year, they caused a social media sensation and sold out in a matter of minutes.

"Even Martha Stewart wanted one."

Referring to the Sipsmith's release, Pickering added: "It is always good to have competition but we are committed to the campaign for the real bauble - something that was completely new in the industry. A colourful gin-filled option, which actually looks like a Christmas tree decoration.

"So if people want a Christmas tree bauble they can drink but also blends in with their other tree decorations we can grant their wish."
